FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Common questions about Emvico – ownership, delivery, operation, and AI
Here are the answers to the questions buyers most frequently ask us. If you don’t find your question, book a thirty-minute slot and we’ll answer it right away.
Who owns the source code and the intellectual property rights to what you are building?
You do—from day one. With bespoke development, you own all the source code and all intellectual property rights. There are no hidden license fees, and you are not locked in with us as your provider. Read more about bespoke development.
Where are the people who develop our system located?
Architecture, project management, and client relations are based in Stockholm—close to you. Development takes place in Stockholm as well as within our agile teams in Warsaw, Lviv, and Budapest. This means you have a Swedish point of contact and a Swedish contract, with the capacity to scale up whenever you need to.
Data protection and teams in Ukraine
Where data is stored and who can access it are two separate issues, and we address both. No environments are operated in Ukraine, and all data resides within the EU. We have the necessary agreements in place regarding our teams and individual personnel in Ukraine. In Azure, Microsoft’s Data Processing Agreement (DPA) applies, and you may retain the encryption keys yourselves; in this scenario, no one other than the key holders has technical access to the data in plaintext. In our Swedish data centers, no external processors are involved. While our operations staff have technical access to the data there, this access is governed by established procedures and access controls—not by encryption. All access is logged, and security is tested on a regular basis.
What does it mean that you use AI in the development process?
Writing code with AI is now a fundamental skill. What matters is who is directing the tools. Our developers act as AI conductors—senior engineers who guide AI tools throughout the entire delivery process, from architecture to automated code review, test coverage, and documentation. You benefit from faster delivery, without compromising on quality or shifting responsibility to a tool.
Can you take over a system that someone else has built?
Yes. This is one of our three main commitments. The takeover process consists of four stages: inventory and preparation, test environment and alignment, production readiness, and finally, ongoing operation by us. The timeline is determined for each system based on its complexity and the state of its documentation. Read more about system management.
We have built a system ourselves, partly using AI. Can you manage it?
Yes. We offer a dedicated commitment for self-built systems. A system built rapidly using AI requires someone who understands both how it was created and how to keep it secure over time. You retain the innovation, domain expertise, and ownership. We handle operations, security, and ongoing development. Read more about self-built systems.
Do we have to hand everything over at once?
No. We work across four levels, and you choose the pace. Level one is resource augmentation, where our engineers work within your team on your system. Level two involves running the system in our environment. Level three is implemented on a system-by-system basis. Level four is a full-scope engagement. Knowledge transfer takes place before the transfer of responsibility—not after.
What happens if we want to switch providers later?
You own the source code and the rights, so the system stays with you. That is the whole point—we do not build in any dependencies on us.
What types of systems do you work with?
Business-critical systems for Swedish industry and growth companies. Three examples featured on our website include: computationally intensive software for Thermo-Calc used in thermodynamic modeling; Fleethub, a solution for connected aftermarket services in the marine industry; and the management of a production system for warehousing, picking, and assembly. We also work close to the hardware—focusing on firmware and embedded systems—as well as with IoT and industrial system integration. Read more about industrial IT.
Where is the system hosted?
You choose the operating environment based on what is most important to you. The system can run in Azure, where Microsoft manages the platform and you have the option to retain control of the encryption keys yourselves. Alternatively, it can run in a private cloud within a data center in Sweden, where no external party processes the data and everything is subject to Swedish and EU law. This choice is made together with you during the assessment phase, before any migration takes place.
Can you meet high requirements for documentation and traceability?
Since 2026, we have been part of Big Science Sweden’s supplier network, which qualifies us to supply facilities such as CERN, ESS, and MAX IV. The requirements for precision, documentation, and reproducibility in these environments are extreme, and we apply the same high standards to all our client projects. Read more about how we work.
Pricing model
The price for a nearshore developer ranges from 550 to 695 SEK per hour, depending on the role. We will provide a concrete proposal following an initial discussion, so you know the cost before making a decision.
How quickly can you get started, and can we test it first?
Yes. All assignments begin with a test period of 1 to 14 days. If you are not satisfied, there is no cost, and we will either remove or replace the resource—the choice is yours.
